The 2022 Stanford study tracks 526 traditional search funds in the United States and Canada through December 31, 2021. Aggregate pre-tax returns were a 35.3 percent IRR and a 5.2x ROI. In 2020 and 2021, 124 funds launched, 66 companies were bought, and the median price rose to $16.5 million.
Owners and advisors comparing a sale to a search fund can use the returns, prices, and seller profile. Investors can see how first-time search funds have actually performed.
